Sanitation is top of mind these days, and rightfully so. If you’re looking for ways to stay healthy this season, don’t forget to regularly clean and disinfect your car. Continue reading for a step-by-step guide on how to effectively sanitize your BMW.

How to Sanitize Your Car

Remove any dust or particles

Before you disinfect the commonly touched surfaces of your car, don’t forget to give your BMW a thorough vacuum to remove any allergens or particles first. Doing so will remove the crumbs, dirt, and contaminants that will break down and become airborne over time. It will also remove any musty smells you may have grown accustomed to.

Start by removing the floor mats to give them a thorough shake. Vacuum the mats, and then lay them in the sun as you clean. Using a hose attachment, vacuum out the floors, the seats, and any nooks and crannies where particles maybe hiding. This simple step will go a long way in improving the air quality in your car.

Choose a mild disinfectant

Bleach and other Lysol products may be effective disinfectants, but using these within your car would do irreparable damage to its organic surfaces.

Instead of using harsh or damaging chemicals, spray a concentration of at least 70% isopropyl alcohol onto the surfaces of your car and wipe it away with a clean, soft terry cloth. This method is how both car manufacturers and assembly plants disinfect their cars.

Don’t forget the air filters

Protect the lungs of your passengers by cleaning or replacing the air filters in your car. These filters are responsible for trapping unwanted particles such as allergens and pollutants before they enter your car through the air vents. As these particles build up over time, the filters become less and less effective.

You can clean or replace your air filters at home by following the steps outlined in your car owner’s manual. You can also drop by our BMW Service Center so that we can take care of this step for you.
